Make an appointment and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program will help file your taxes if you qualify
ALBANY, GA -- Taxpayers who fall into low to moderate income categories can get some free tax help at the SOWEGA Council on Aging's Pine Avenue location.
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will be at the council’s downtown location through April 15 helping with paper tax filing forms and e-filing. The group takes between four and five clients per hour between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
They ask that participants bring a photo ID, social security card, last year’s income tax return and 2011 income documents.
"Some will need to file, some will not need to file but we need to look at each person individually so if they're not sure if they'll bring in all their income statements we'll look at them and let them know if they need to file or not," says Laura McKinney, a RSVP volunteer.

Funding for this program is through the AARP Foundation. Volunteers trained for a week on how to prepare the tax return forms.
