Albany Parks and Rec is taking the week to commemorate Fire Safety Week as is Albany State University for their International Education Week

ALBANY, GA -- Some events take only one day but two events in Albany are using the whole week to celebrate with the community.

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department is hosting “Fire Safety Week” Monday through Thursday. The week kicks off on Monday with a seminar at the Bill Miller Community Center at 7 p.m. The rest of the week is as follows:

Tuesday, Oct. 11: Seminar at Turner Gym (2301 George St.) at 10 a.m. and at Carver Gym (410 Mercer Ave.) at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 12: Seminar at Thornton Community Center (210) Thornton Drive) at 3:30 p.m. and at Henderson Community Center (701 Willard) at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 13: Seminar at Lockett Station Community Center (324 Lockett Station Road) at 4 p.m.

Wednesday is also Fire Safety Day for kids at the Albany Civic Center from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Albany State University is holding International Education Week featuring a variety of events on Monday for the kickoff including a parade of flags at 8:30 and an international speaker at 10 a.m. The events for the rest of the week are as follows:

Monday, Oct. 10:
8:30 a.m. International Parade of Flags from the New Student Center to ACAD
9:45 a.m. IEW Proclamation at the ACAD Auditorium
10 a.m. International Speaker
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. International Field Day at the ASU Coliseum
8 p.m. International Pageant and the new Student Center Ballroom

Tuesday, Oct. 11:
5 p.m. Residence Halls open for Dorm Competition

Wednesday, Oct. 12:
11 a.m. – 2 p.m IEW Honors Luncheon at L. Orene Hall Building
6 p.m. Student Panel Discussion: Cultural Imperialism- China

Thursday, Oct. 13:
9 a.m. ASU Global Ambassadors visit International Studies Charter School
5 p.m. Cultural Explosion at the Student Center Ballroom

Friday, Oct. 14:
5 p.m. International Film Festival at JPL 114
