ALBANY, GA -- The Southwest Georgia Regional Airport has been offered a grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to help with their terminal improvement projects.
They were able to bid out the project and the city has tentatively approved it.
They will begin the project in the next three months.
During that time, they will continue to operate out of the old terminal while the new one is being built.
It will include more restrooms, plug-ins at every seat for electronics, work desks and new TSA technology which will speed up the screening process.
It will also be about 3,000 square feet larger.
“It's a better use of our space. We don't have the use of our second story right now. There's going to be a lot higher ceilings, there's gonna be a lot more glass; it's gonna be a lot lighter inside. So it's going to appear a lot larger,” says Airport Director Yvette Aehle.
The city first must give its final approval next Tuesday night.
