Over almost 12 weeks, citizens learned what goes on behind the scenes at the Albany Police Department

ALBANY, GA -- Nearly 20 people from the Albany are a little savvier about what goes on behind the scenes at the Albany Police Department.

Students from the 25th Citizen’s Academy graduated Tuesday night.

Over the last 12 weeks, participants had classes with the Gang Task Force, the K-9 Unit, Forensics and one many people found interesting: Homicide. Students also went on ridealongs with officers.

“The main thing I learned is that it is really important to be more than just a resident of the city of Albany; you've got to be a citizen, you've got to help. we got a very great police force but they really do need our help,” says Citizen’s Academy Graduate Elizabeth Arrington.

Citizen’s Academy students also visited the fire station to learn what driving is like during calls for police officers.

“I drove on the sidewalk more than I drove on the street,” says Arrington.

Chief Proctor says he hopes participants go out into the community and tell people about the hard work that Albany police are doing.

Graduates received a certificate and pin. Those who maintained perfect attendance received an APD mug.
