ALBANY, GA -- It took hours to finish, but one thousand flags were erected at the Albany Mall Saturday.

About 50 volunteers helped put up the American flags. This is the ninth year organizers have done the field of flags event.

It's a memorial for Labor Day and the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

“The flags will be out here all week, out here for to come out and enjoy, take pictures, walk through them kids walk through them and just enjoy this living memorial, you might say.,” said Marvin Mixon, who coordinated the event.

Next Saturday there will be a special program in that field at 7 p.m. The flags come down the next day, the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
