They addressed the Dougherty County Commission Wednesday
ALBANY, GA -- The Flint RiverQuarium was at the Dougherty County Commission meeting Wednesday morning, requesting additional funding.
Now with adjustments of health care costs with jail inmates that allows for a budget without furloughs, they were hoping against hope the commission would be able to grant their request.
However, when commissioner Gloria Gaines made a motion for the finance committee to consider it, the motion died for lack of a second.
“The RiverQuarium's mission is environmental education and understanding the natural resources of water is really what the state gave $34 million to build a RiverQuarium to do,” said Flint RiverQuarium Chair, Emily Jean McAfee.
“We've contributed $800,000 to the RiverQuarium over the last four years and sometimes you just have to say, no, we can't do that right now,” said commissioner Lamar Hudgins.
The amount requested was $50,000.
McAfee says they will search out private funding.
