FOX 31 Facebook fans wanted to know some resources for adults with illiteracy problems.
ALBANY, GA -- FOX 31 Facebook fans wanted to know what resources are available for adults suffering from illiteracy?
Authorities said a good place to start is the local library.
Ashley Moore, interim director for the Dougherty County Public Library, said when an adult admits to library workers that they have and issue reading, staff assess the individual's reading level and then make an action plan to help.
The Dougherty County Public Library has online resources as well as books to help adult learn to read.
"If you already have the basics of the A, B, and Cs, then we can get into higher level material. Otherwise we would want to start with books and materials that cover your basic sounds and visuals of the alphabet," said library Director Ashley Moore.
The library has over forty computers for people to use if they don't have a personal one at home.
Albany Techical College representatives said they have an adult reading program that can be used to combat illiteracy. The classes are free to enroll. For more information about Albany Tech's adult reading program visit the school's website at www.albanytech.edu.
