Fritz Drisbach happened upon glassblowing while at college in 1964

ALBANY, GA -- Not many folks know too much about the art of glassblowing, but Sunday’s guest at the Albany Museum of art was going to change all that.

Fritz Dreisbach spoke at the museum about glassblowing, which really hit its stride here in the U.S. in the 1960's.

He first discovered it as a student at the University of Iowa—practically by accident.

“In the summer of ‘64 I needed two credits. And so my teacher, my painting professor, said here, take this class. And it was glassblowing. And I quit painting, I quit everything I had been doing up to that point, I just stopped everything and started doing glass and I’ve never been able to stop,” Said Dreisbach.

Many museums carry his collections, including the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
