However, would it directly compete with The Fresh Market set to open in April
ALBANY, GA -- A man with the Baker County Historical Society wants to open a farmer's market in Albany.
There are questions, however, as to whether it will directly compete with The Fresh Market planned to open in April downtown.
David Milliner with the Baker Historical Society held a meeting Monday to talk about bringing a farmer's market to Albany.
Downtown manager, Aaron Blair was there, along with business owner BJ Fletcher, who is a co-owner of The Fresh Market.
One thing they all agree on--the importance of buying local.
“And we're wanting people to look at Georgia made, Georgia grown as a big initiative and really push forward to just keep southwest Georgia eating healthy and working,” Said Milliner.
While it's not clear whether the farmer's market will partner with The Fresh Market, Fletcher says competition would be a good thing for the downtown business.
Milliner says he hopes to have the farmer's market up and running by May 28th.
