The referendum will wait until new census numbers are available in 2012

ALBANY, GA -- The consolidation issue was brought up at Tuesday's city commission meeting.

City commissioners voted to pass a resolution that would hold off a referendum on consolidating the City of Albany and Dougherty County.

Commissioners say it would be best to wait until new census numbers come out in 2012 since district lines would be affected.

“Without the correct number of people, you could have the wards, or whatever we're calling them, they could be outdated or outnumbered and not necessarily have the people who are in them represent it,” Said commissioner Dorothy Hubbard.

Senator Freddie Powell Sims had said recently that she would reintroduce the bill in this term of the General Assembly.
