Monday, the Boy Scouts celebrated its 100th birthday and today held a celebration to honor that milestone with U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop serving as the keynote speaker.

U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop began his tenure in scouts as a cub scout in 1955 as an eight year old. He worked his way up the ladder and now holds the title of a “Distinguished Eagle Scout.”  The National Boy Scouts give that rare honor to those who show community involvement and for their career achievements.

“The scout motto, “Be prepared,” the scout slogan, “Do a good turn daily,” these are character foundations that I think have shaped my life,” said Congressman Bishop.

Currently there are nearly four million people enrolled in the Boy Scouts of America and 110 million have circulated through the program since 1910
