ALBANY, GA --
In our Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know why binge drinking is becoming a bigger problem for women.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention binge drinking among women and girls is a serious and unrecognized problem. The CDC reports 1 in 8 women and 1 in 5 high school girls binge drink.

The CDC also warns binge drinking puts women at a higher risk for breast cancer, sexually transmitted diseases, heart disease and unintended pregnancy.

Andy Martin, a Master Addiction Counselor, says it is dangerous to only talk about binge drinking as it relates to a specific gender. Martin says the problem isn't women who are binge drinking, it's binge drinking in general.
