CORDELE, GA --
The Cordele Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying two men caught on camera stealing $4,000 worth of electronics from the Cordele Walmart on December 22nd and 24th.
Detective Ketorie Sales says the video shows two men walking into the store before they separate once they get inside. One man wearing a Georgia Bulldogs hat loads his cart full of electronics such as desktop computers, televisions, routers, and shirts.
He then walks the merchandise through the garden center and was able to avoid employees by using an emergency fire exit.
Authorities say that he then had a getaway car waiting on him – once a white hatchback on December 22nd and once a blue truck on the 24th. Police believe the second man left the store to get the car while the first man loaded the cart.
Upon further investigation, Cordele police discovered that the same man was behind similar Walmart robberies at locations in Perry, Locust Grove, and Eastman from December 20th to the 28th. Those thefts raised the total merchandise stolen to almost $10,000.
Detective Sales says they first believed this was the work of locals but after seeing the wide-spread stores they hit, the two men may be from out towards Eastman.
Detective Thomas Daly with the Perry Police Department says this type of theft is done by a professional who then tries to sell the merchandise online. Daly and his team are keeping a close eye on sites like Craigslist to see if they can trace the items back to the stores.
