City commissioners discussing whether or not they can regulate which performers come to the Civic Center.
Controversy sparked when City commissioner Bob Langstaff received an email from an upset citizen who said they didn't want rapper Gucci Mane performing in Albany due to his explicit lyrics and lude comments. Freedom of speech allows the rapper to perform in Albany, but city attorney Nathan Davis says there are way to regulate that freedom.
“It's not an absolute right, there are certain exceptions to the rule, for example you can't stand up in the middle of a building and shout fire and people get hurt when there's no fire, they can charge you a fine for that, so there are very limited circumstances where you can pass some appropriate regulations and I understand I'm supposed to look for those and they are very limited circumstances,” said Davis.
Gucci mane is set to perform this Saturday night.
