Friday night legendary news anchor Walter Cronkite passed away at age 92.  The cause of death was cerebral vascular disease.

He was known as the “Most trusted man in America.” From 1962 to 1981 he was the face of the CBS Evening News.

One of his most memorable broadcasts came on November 22, 1963 when he broke into a live episode of the soap opera As the World Turns to announce that President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated.

Southwest Georgians sound off on the man who first was given the title, “Anchorman.”

“There are so many different news channels and news venues to where I don’t think one person would ever stand out like he did in the past," said Albany resident Bonnie Phillips.

Cairo native Jeff Brown says Cronkite was one of a kind.

“He basically took news to another level, so I don’t think we’ll see another one,” said Brown.
