Day one of administering the H1N1 injectable vaccines drew hundreds at Dougherty County Health Department. Yesterday some waited over four hours to receive the shot and weren’t happy about it.
Wednesday, at the Dougherty County Health Department, nurses administered nearly 180 injectable H1N1 vaccines. That volume had some waiting over four hours before their name was called. Thursday, the Dougherty County Health Department implemented a new paper work process to decrease wait time.
The health department’s Suzette Profit hopes this will help.
“When they get in, there’s a table out in front of the clinic. There’s a staff member there that asks you to fill out the questions that’s required to be answered prior to getting the vaccine,” said Profit.
Meanwhile, It’s up to the CDC to decide how many additional vaccines will be distributed to Southwest Georgia, and the health district isn’t sure about that number; all they know is it’s going to be a busy next couple of months says the health district’s Kitty Bishop.
“There’s going to be waves. We’re entering into the second wave at this point in time. We are seeing a high degree in prevalence in our communities and that’s being reported to the CDC as they’re requiring it,” said Bishop.
