The Dougherty County Board of Education discussed a way to help homeowners who won’t receive the homestead exemption grant this year and possibly next year.

School Board Chairman David Maschke showed the board a resolution that must be voted on and sent to the General Assembly for approval that states if savings are found in the system’s budget they could in turn offset the loss of the grant. Financial advisors say $9 million in stimulus funds could be lost if they pass the resolution.

The board hopes to vote on the proposed resolution in November.
