Mayor Willie Adams declared October as Head-Start awareness month.

Head Start is a program that helps four and five-year-olds prepare for school earlier. Yolonda Rawls put two of her three children through so far, and says they are both straight-A students. Her youngest child is in it now and says she learns something every day.

“She knows how to spell her name, she knows how to spell our names, she knows how to read certain words, she's doing sentences right now, learning some Spanish as well, so I think that's really getting her prepared for kindergarten when she starts next year,” Said Rawls.

Head Start will hold a parade this Friday starting at the Tift Center at 10:00 a.m.
