Marjorie "Margie" Bloch Owens (1921-2009)

Marjorie Bloch Owens (“Margie”) passed away peacefully at her home Friday morning, October 2nd, after a brief illness.

She was born in Selma, Alabama on November 3, 1921 to Maude Schuster Bloch and Walter Isaac Bloch. Marjorie attended Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia. On January 3, 1946 she married Marion Pope “Dutch” Owens. The young couple moved to Albany in 1949 and opened Owens Sporting Goods and Hardware. They worked side by side for fifty-three years until the business was sold in 2002. Their great joy was spending time with family and friends. Marjorie also loved line dancing and was an inspiration to those in her class. She touched the lives of many and brought happiness to all who knew her

Marjorie was a member of the Charity League of Albany, Temple B’nai Israel, and the Temple Sisterhood. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, her parents, and her sister, Irma Rae Erdreich.

She is survived by her children Ronald Owens (Mary), Larry Owens, Charlotte Leddy (Drake), and Linda Clark (Larry). Marjorie (“MeeMaw”) is also survived by her grandchildren Micah Owens (Rena), Sgt. Andre Owens, Jamie Owens (Mandy), Jason Owens, Walter Leddy (Brooke), Hollis Leddy Owens (Brian), Charles Leddy (Laura), Stanton Leddy (Melissa), Dr. Charles Clark (Haley), Owen Clark, Davis Clark and Martin Clark; and her great grandchildren Easton Owens, Zander Owens, Ava Rose Owens, Hollis Wade Leddy, Charlotte Owens, Lawrence Owens, and Emily Owens. In addition, Marjorie is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Hall; her nephews David Hall (Judy) and Danny Hall (Ginger); and her nieces Kaydee Erdreich Bremen, Sue Flint (Andy) and Barbara Fine (Larry). The family will receive visitors Sunday at Kimbrell-Stern from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. A celebration of her life will be held at Kimbrell-Stern on Monday at 4:00 P.M. with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
