Alice Mixon, 63, of Albany, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at her residence following an illness.
Her funeral service will be MONDAY 11 AM at First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Melinda Andrew will officiate.
Mrs. Mixon was born in Vienna, GA, and had lived in Albany for many years. She graduated from Vienna High School in the Class of 1963, and was a 1966 graduate of Tift College. She received her MEd degree from Albany State College and her Six Year Degree from Troy State University. Mrs. Mixon taught in the Dougherty County School System for 35 years and taught hundreds of children mostly in the 4 year old pre-K program. She was a member of the Albany Junior League, Past President and Past Chaplain of the American Legion Post 30 Auxiliary Unit, and Cabane 909 of the 40 & 8 Society. Mrs. Mixon raised 3 fine children.
She is survived by her husband: Marvin Mixon, Albany; a son: Marvin “Walt” Mixon, Jr., Columbus, GA; 2 daughters: Pam M. Smith and her husband Jeff, Woodstock, GA, Barbara M. Newsome and her husband Doug, Greenville, SC; 4 grandchildren: Parker Smith and Abby Smith, both of Woodstock, GA, Aaron Newsome and Callie Newsome, both of Greenville, SC; her mother: Barbara Franklin Odom, Vienna, GA; her sister: Helen O. Rice and her husbank Bill, LaGrange, GA.
The family will receive friends Sunday (Today) at Kimbrell-Stern from 3-5 PM.
